MITA Announces New Policy Director

Washington, D.C. – The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) today announced that Peter Weems has joined the organization as Policy Director. The addition of Weems will help strengthen the trade association’s expertise in coverage and reimbursement issues.

“MITA is committed to educating policymakers and regulators about the role of medical imaging in improving health outcomes and reducing costs,” said Gail Rodriguez, executive director of MITA. “Peter’s extensive political and policy experience positions him well to represent the interests of our members in Washington, D.C. and beyond.”

In his role, Weems will lead MITA’s efforts to engage and educate regulators about the value of innovative medical imaging and the importance of patient access to these technologies.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues at MITA to advocate for appropriate legislation, regulation and Medicare coverage decisions that encourage innovation and improve patients’ access to care,” said Weems. “It is an honor to join an organization that has fortified its leadership role in the imaging community through continuous engagement with policymakers, physicians, and patients.”

Prior to joining MITA, Weems served as an Associate with van der Walde & Co. where he provided research and analysis to capital markets and private equity investors on federal health care payment policy. Previously, he worked in research roles, focusing primarily on health care, with two lobbying firms in Washington, D.C.

Weems earned his BA in Philosophy from James Madison University and also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Armenia.
