Innovation Award Recognizes Members of Congress for Championing Medical Innovation, Bolstering Job Creation and Improving Patient Care through Medical Device Tax Suspension

Washington, D.C. – The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) today presented Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) with a 2016 “Innovation Award” for championing medical innovation, bolstering job creation within the medical technology industry and improving patient care through support of the medical device tax suspension.

“We are proud to honor Congresswoman Sinema for championing medical innovation and stimulating the job market,” said MITA Board Chairman Nelson Mendes, president and CEO of Ziehm Imaging Inc. “In a siloed political climate, it is refreshing to see our leaders look beyond party lines to support solid policies that impact constituents across the country.”

The MITA 2016 “Innovation Awards” recognize members of Congress who have demonstrated outstanding, ongoing efforts to promote innovation within the medical technology industry and improve patient care.

Congresswoman Sinema voted in favor of a two-year suspension of the medical device tax which went into effect on December 31, 2015.  She currently represents Arizona’s 9th Congressional District in the United States Congress and serves on the House Committee on Financial Services. Arizona’s medical technology industry directly employs 940 citizens. [i]
