MITA Applauds Study on Impact of CT Use on Hospital Admission Rates
Rosslyn, Va. – A recent study published in Annals of Emergency Medicine found that computed tomography (CT) scans in the emergency department are associated with a reduction in hospitalizations. Between 1996 and 2007, the rate of hospitalization following a CT scan decreased by almost half, from 26 percent to 12.1 percent.
“Manufactures have transformed CT scanning since its inception with advances that have reduced medical radiation exposure and improved image quality,” said David Fisher, Executive Director, Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA). “Continual innovations in CT technology have allowed doctors to detect, diagnose and treat patients earlier and more quickly than ever before. MITA applauds the work of Dr. Keith Kocher and his team whose findings underscore the importance of access to CT scans, which save lives and reduce healthcare costs.”
