Lawmakers Advise Obama Against Cuts In Reimbursements for Medical Imaging
A bipartisan group of senators July 20 wrote President Obama, urging him not to cut Medicare reimbursements for imaging procedures.
The lawmakers, led by Sens. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) and Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), told Obama the “deep, ongoing cuts” to imaging reimbursements are “stifling this home-grown medical innovation and leaving seniors and disabled Americans without the access to care they need to diagnose life-threatening diseases such as heart disease and cancers.”
The letter urged Obama to reject calls for making even deeper cuts to Medicare payments for imaging services. “Despite the fact that the most recent data demonstrates medical imaging is now one of the slowest growing services in Medicare, it’s our understanding that some are proposing further cuts to these services as an offset for new spending or in the name of deficit reduction.”
