CMS Looks To Deepen ‘Multiple Procedure’ Physician Imaging Payment Cuts

CMS is proposing to deepen payment reductions next year for advanced imaging scans when multiple tests are administered to a patient during a single appointment.

It is also signaling plans to expand the so-called “multiple procedure payment reduction” policy to even more tests in the future.

In its 2012 physician fee schedule proposal, released July 1, the agency said it wants to extend the payment reduction policy to the “professional” component of payments for advanced imaging services including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound.
