President Obama on Monday submitted Donald M. Berwick’s name to the Senate for confirmation as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) — a position he already holds.
On July 7, Obama bypassed the confirmation process by appointing the Harvard University professor to the CMS post during the July Fourth recess. As a recess appointee, Berwick can serve without confirmation until the end of 2011.
